Learn about normal oral anatomy to help you recognize common abnormalities to check for when evaluating puppy oral health. Malocclusions, missing teeth and periodontal health will be discussed, along with recommendations to help you acclimate your puppy to home care and know when to seek veterinary care and treatment.
Blythe Waters, DVM, is a native of Atlantic Beach, Florida. She pursued her lifelong dream to become a veterinarian, graduating with honors in 2003 from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. While in veterinary school, she served as the University of Florida representative to the American Veterinary Medical Association and was chair of the International Veterinary Student Committee, organizing over 250 study opportunities for international students at U.S. universities. After graduating, Dr. Waters practiced general medicine and emergency medicine and even owned a veterinary practice in the Jacksonville, Florida, area before deciding to pursue a residency in dentistry. She completed her residency in 2025 at The Pet Dentist of Tampa Bay, where she currently practices. In her spare time, Dr. Waters enjoys being outside with her dog and her family. She also is an avid reader and enjoys gardening. She shares her home with her husband, Dave, her daughter, Sybil, and her mother, Janice, and two cats, Saru and Peugeot, and a dog, Otis Redding. Although Dr. Waters can’t choose between the mountains and the ocean as her happy place, but knows that peace is to be found in the quiet and beauty of nature.
